GISELLA BIONDANI
Gisella is a watercolor artist and calligrapher based in Monza. Trained as an illustrator and graphic designer at IED in Milan, her work balances the fluidity of watercolor with the essential structure of the calligraphic gesture.
She is inspired by nature and her aim is to tell moments lived through art. The result is intertwined shapes that chase each other and complement each other in fresh and harmonious compositions. Her research is aimed at abstraction: the watercolor shapes are large brush strokes of color left free to flow on the sheet, the calligraphic action is gestural, expressive and conceals the reading of the text, leaving freedom of interpretation to the public.
For Gisella, watercolor must have strength and contrast in a single layer; each color is respected and the elements of the composition are in balance in space. Her spontaneous grace has deep artistic roots, perfected during years of study and experimentation. Gisella has participated in group exhibitions and has appeared in art publications. She has an active teaching program and leads numerous workshops in Italy and Europe.
What do you love about Borciani e Bonazzi brushes?
The very high quality is undoubtedly what immediately struck me. I have always used the 105 series brushes in Kolinsky sable, the hair has the right stiffness and ability to handle water, and after so many years they are still perfect. For larger gestures I have found a valid support in the squirrel hair mop brush Series 168, they have an excellent load capacity and a lot of flexibility on pressure. The UNICO Infinito series in the different versions is also giving me great satisfaction, both for watercolor and calligraphic works, where it is essential that the brush maintains the tip after pressure. In my courses I teach that supports are essential to be able to correctly learn a technique, and these brushes are the ideal solution.
