Workshop: Dancing on the tips, how to use brush tips for perfect strokes
Together with Raffaella Barbieri, product technique of Borciani and Bonazzi, we held the workshop "Dancing on the Tips" to explain how to best use the brush tip for perfect strokes.
The workshop took place on Saturday, March 2nd, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Borciani e Bonazzi headquarters (Via Ezio Vanoni 37/A, Casalmaggiore (CR)).
Raffaella is an artist, set designer, trainer, decorator, and visual expert, specializing in various painting techniques and possessing deep knowledge of Borciani e Bonazzi products, the historic Italian producer of fine art brushes since 1951.
Getting the Best Out of Borciani e Bonazzi Brushes: Here's What We Explained During the Workshop
Have you ever wondered how to achieve particular strokes easily? The fur of an animal, delicate and thin blades of grass, a perfect leaf...
Let's embark on a journey through the tips of the most unique brushes, playing with liners, riggers, and fans, flat tips, and round tips to create the illustration with the most suitable tool.
During the workshop, we used four brushes to explore how to create strokes that best suit your artistic style:
Il Perfetto series 623
IL PERFETTO series 623 brush is made of synthetic fibre that mimics Kolinsky Sable, enhancing its durability, absorbency, and elasticity. IL PERFETTO series 623 brush is used for various techniques, from moderately diluted ones like oil painting, acrylic painting, and gouache, to more diluted ones, such as watercolor painting.
The precision of the tip and the ergonomic birch handle make it ideal for precision work, such as writing and calligraphy, for long and continuous brushstrokes with varying thicknesses, and for contours with a flexible effect.
Il Perfetto series 624
IL PERFETTO series 624 brush is a synthetic brush made with our patented MKS Kolinsky Synthetic fibre, featuring a fan-shaped tip and a short birch wood handle. The synthetic fibre ensures excellent tip durability, absorbency, and perfect shape retention.
IL PERFETTO series 624 brush is used in oil painting, acrylic painting, gouache technique, and in painting with highly pigmented watercolors and watercolor pencils.
The synthetic fibre, a perfect imitation of the prized Kolinsky Sable, is incredibly elastic and is ideal for creating very thin, continuous lines as well as for applying large washes.
The Pinstriping series 781
The Pinstriping series 781 brush is a flat-tipped brush made of HIDRO® synthetic fibre. This series is used for techniques such as pinstriping, lining, and decoration, particularly in ceramics.
It's perfect for watercolor painting on various surfaces due to its ability to absorb large amounts of water and diluted mediums. It's also widely used for watercolor pencils and brush calligraphy.
The Unico Mangusta series 800
The Unico Mangusta series 800 brush is a round brush made of imitation Mongoose synthetic fibres,
It's a soft brush with high absorbency, ideal for watercolor painting, diluted acrylics, and to create very fine veins in oil painting.
The shape of the tip is perfect for creating details and very thin, long, well-defined lines, and under pressure it creates a droplet-like trace.
